ATARAXIA - LA CASA AZUL

Our last project in art class has been the creation of an abstract artwork based on a song we liked. For me the decision was difficult because I had so many ideas for different songs I liked. However as I was listening to Ataraxia by La Casa Azul, I knew that it would be the song.

Ataraxia is defined as calmness or peace of mind; emotional tranquillity. Guille Milkyway was trying to capture the inexplicable sensation that wanting someone for the first time, as if you needed their air to breath can evoque. In the videoclip, he wanted to share a simple love story, the dreaming moments as the levitations that the ataraxia desire can provocate in the main characters. Moreover, he wanted to explain without mincing its words their passionate sexual encounters but also showing provocation and the game of being seen in public places.

So in order to create the art piece, I looked for an abstract artist that could help me evoque all the sensations that Guille wanted to express not only through the song but also through the music video. That is why the artist I choose is Georgia O'Keeffe. She expresses sexuality through curves and flowers with sexual shapes in flowers. Moreover, she uses curves that express organicism.

Through all the creative process I had the song on repeat, even when writing this text. This way, it would be easier to represent the song into the paper. At first, I listened to the song twice with my closed eyes to fully concentrate on the feelings that the song evocates on me. Then I started doing some sketches and I came with a similar shape as in the final drawing, however, I exaggerated the shape to give it a similarity to Georgia O'Keeffe. I started drawing the bottom part that it kind of representantes the time were the lovers are kind of starting to express their love to each other, that is why I wanted to create kind of a calmed waves in colour green that finish in going up in a penis shape to a multicoloured vagina. The vagina is the part of the song where the song starts building into the drope or the song bridge. That is why I wanted to create a lot of tiny waves in not too much-saturated colours, trying to create tension. Finally, I wanted to represent the losing track time and the passion and sensations that being with someone can really create in one's body. I wanted to representante it through multiple luminous pastel colours.
